I put this sharpener to good use on a recent camping trip with my son and grandsons. I taught them all how to grind their pocket knives with this device and I believe that they all learned from this experience. This sharpener offers a number of ways to grind innumerable blades and tools and I plan to include it in my camping gear from here on. The only thing that it lacks is an eraser to take out the residue from the terracotta rods after sharpening is completed. These special erasers are available, but may be hard to find. I by now had one so it wasn't an issue for me. This sharpener is relatively compact and is, in my opinion, a good buy.

I am amazed how astute these knives are now. The additional sharpeners put a skilled edge on these blades before but this sharpener made the edges charming and razor astute to the point everywhere slicing release sheets of paper was unheard of before including the additional sharpeners I own. I would highly recommend this sharpener along including the Smith Sack since the sack sharpener has a shape rod and fits of laughter kind in any sack.

Initially of all, if used properly, you can get a VERY nice edge on this sharpener. However, there are much better. Public aren't looking for a sharpener that will give a wicked edge in this price range, because it's sweet dodgy you'll find one. This sharpener is splendid AND well-located for under twenty dollars. Just don't expect to get a hair-splitting edge each time with this thing at 23 degrees on each side. The main thing you must use on this is the ceramic rods for touch-ups. While the diamond marble and carbide sharpener are splendid for reprofiling dull edges, you shouldn't use them unless your knife REALLY needs a sharpening. Be warned, the carbide sharpener shouldn't be used with much force. If too much difficulty is applied, it will ruin your edge and take off a LOT of steel.

Even as this sharpening logic doesn't have as many optional angles as the Spyderco sharpmaker it is exceptionally compact(7.75inx1.375inx.75in) and can put a nice effective edge on your blade in a few passes on the carbide notches(4-6).I surely be thankful for this manufactured goods in view of the fact that it was the only way I may maybe get my Ka-bar to a very nice near razor edge.Even if the ceramic rods from my encounter tend to dull the edge a bit with by them but does make the edge cut smoother.If the carbides are not set at a wanted slant for you,you can do it the old fashioned way with the 4" affect marble which can be used abstractedly wet or dry.By and large a nice logic to have on you whether it be surrounded by or hanging on a backpack with some 550 cord owing to the lanyard hole climbing/camping or almost the household when a knife wants a instant sharpening.

I am a musician and I make and chat the reeds that I use. I have to have a sharp knife to make these adjustments. My favorite sharpener set is the Spyderco Sharpmaker, but that is an high-priced thing.The Smith's CCD4 offers a similar easy-to-use ceramic sticks. All you do is gently drag the blade along the colorless sticks. No worries about getting the angle aptly, because all you have to do is keep the blade upright.Smith's diamond surface is not as consistent when extra as similar sharpeners by DMT, but that's OK because it is a coarse surface for initial grinding. Most of the time you will be using the colorless stones to keep your blade in top condition.I don't recommend the tiny carbide drag-through feature (on the base between the orange surface and the colorless rods). This type of sharpener is fast, but can damage a blade if not used carefully.Alternatives:Lansky's "crock stab" series with the wood bases. NOT not compulsory. The rods are kind of lumpy, and also lack the texture to grind steel. Everything a sharpener should not be.Spyderco's Sharpmaker. 100% perfect. It has longer rods (allowing more of a slice-down budge and less of a dragging budge) which tends to produce a finer blade edge. It also has in cooperation fine rods and standard rods. However, it expenditure a lot more.
