This stone was only slightly high in the median. I couldn't bring myself to lap this fine a stone with a DMT 95 plate. I used a DMT fine as a substitution for. Worked great and didn't take that long to get it flat.Now as far as sharpening this thing works very well. It's fast and the pointer is great. Puts a true mirror edge on my buck knives and my wife's Wustof chief knives. Well worth the price.

Shapton Schooner Ceramic Water Stones are the finest manmade ceramic water stones....period! This claim is based largely on two properties - the speed at which the Shapton stones cut and the edge they create. Shapton stones are calculated to be harder, faster cutting, and denser than any other ceramic water marble on the promote. Because they remove notes quickly, the time required to hold a tool slant on the marble is reduced, making emancipated hand sharpening much easier. Equally important to cutting speed is the consistency of the finished edge. The sharpest cutting edge is created by the restricted intersection of two highly polished, flat surfaces. The finishing grits (16000 and 30000) of the Shapton marble system leave a polished go up emancipated of the scratches creating a mirror finished, razor sharp edge. Each marble is comprised of a 5mm thick schooner backing plate fused to a 5mm thick marble and measures 2-3/4 W x 8-1/4L. We recommend purchasing, and using, the Shapton marble holder. As it provides a secure platform and protects your marble when in use.

I'm a long-calculate user of DMT bench stones in all their shape factors. Lately, I've been noticing evidence of poor feature hegemony. I just received a coarse flat file and a fine flat file. There are obvious bald areas on these files containing little or no shape grit. I probable best. I have been sharpening knives, axes, machetes, scissors, etc by hand for over 6 being now using diamond stones. I can get a pretty good edge, but after reading a book on the subject, I knew that I was never going to get that "factory" sharp feel on my knives without a tool.So I ordered the DMT Deluxe kit - in suspense to get that perfect 20 degree, or 18 degree grind...and I did...for one knife. Then a small fake nub, inside the alignment tool, snapped rancid, and it was impossible to get the tool to hold an slant, because of how the degree "inscription" are locked in place on that nub/lug. The tool became useless, unless I wanted one bevel incredibly sharp.I immediately emailed DMT expressing my problem. I never did get a response. The injection molded fake is as brittle as a child's toy, and really not nearly the quality of the stones they include with the kit (which imho, were pretty dang good.)
